Ancient Visions by Roland Barrett is an easy, effective work for contest or festival performance. This edition is a conductor score and parts.
A brief lyrical introduction leads into a rhythmic ostinato and heroic brass statements. Open 5ths and simple contrapuntal writing build energy, followed by a brief solo trumpet in the lyrical middle section and a climax for full band. The final section returns to opening material with a key change, leading to an exciting conclusion.
