Balladette is Leroy Anderson’s elegant, cool, and somewhat abstract composition for string orchestra. This edition includes a conductor score and parts, with a string count of 8-8-5-5-5.
Anderson composed Balladette in 1962 in Woodbury, Connecticut, and conducted the Greater Miami Philharmonic Orchestra in its premiere on July 3, 1965. He is known for polished orchestrations of descriptive compositions, often romantic or nostalgic in theme; Balladette stands in contrast to that style.
The publisher offers both full orchestra and string orchestra versions. The string parts are identical in both editions because the music is complete with strings alone. Wind parts in the orchestra editions double the strings for added color and may be used as available.
