This book is a cello companion to Paul Rolland’s The Teaching of Action in String Playing. Rolland, a violinist, wrote his seminal work from the violin’s perspective; his planned cello companion was never realized because of his untimely death.
Ida Mercer and Joanne Erwin, who studied with Rolland at the University of Illinois in the 1970s, bring decades of teaching and performing experience to this work on the relationship between physical movement and effective string playing. It is useful in schools, private studios, and personal practice.
