Alfred Music’s reprint conductor score presents Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826)’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in E-flat Major, J.118/Op. 74, composed in 1811 for clarinet virtuoso Heinrich Bärmann.
The concerto has three movements: a bold, spirited Allegro, a lyrical Romanza rich in operatic sentiment, and a vivacious polacca-style Rondo. Its first performance took place in Munich on November 25, 1811.
Instrumentation: 2.2.0.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Clarinet in set.
A staple of the clarinet repertoire, the work explores the instrument’s expressive and technical range and helped pioneer an idiomatic style that influenced generations of clarinet music.
