Beethoven’s Concerto for Piano No. 4 in G major, Op. 58 is presented as a conductor score and parts. Composed in 1805–1806, it is considered one of the crown jewels of the piano concerto repertoire.
Beethoven gave the first performance at a private concert in the palace of Prince Franz Joseph von Lobkowitz. He played the solo part in the first public performance on December 22, 1808, at the Theater an der Wien, a famously cold four-hour concert where he also conducted the premieres of his Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. He dedicated the concerto to his student and friend Archduke Rudolph. After years of neglect, a series of tours by Felix Mendelssohn created fresh demand for its permanent return to the concert hall.
Instrumentation: 1.2.2.2 : 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set): Solo Pno.
