Danceries (Set II) Score & Parts is the second set in the Danceries series, arranged for wind band. It continues the approach of using material from Playford's Dancing Master, the seventeenth-century collection of folk and popular tunes.
The melodies are more abstract here, but each movement remains self-contained, colorful, and direct, with its own distinct mood. The outer movements, "Jennie's Bawbee" and "Peascod's Galliarda," share driving percussion writing with a military air.
"Tom Tinker's Toye" and "Heart's Ease" are both settings of original melodies. Compared with the first set, these movements are more extended, with freer treatment of the material, melodies in various keys, and a wider range of harmonic coloring.
The result is a richer, more exhilarating set of dances.
