The Dayton Audio BR-1 is a 2-way bookshelf monitor speaker kit for building one pair. It includes finished enclosures, two 6-1/2" woofers, two 1-1/8" silk dome tweeters, crossover components and circuit boards, damping materials, wire, screws, solderless terminals, and assembly instructions.
The speakers have a power handling rating of 100 Watts max, a frequency response of 43 - 18,000 Hz, and an impedance of 8 Ohm. Cabinet dimensions are 14-1/4" H x 8-5/8" W x 11" D.
The component set includes two 47uF-100V non-polarized capacitors, two 0.10uF 400V by-pass capacitors, two 8 Ohm 10W resistors, two 3.0uF 250V polypropylene capacitors, two 1.5 mH 18 AWG Perfect Layer air core inductors, two 6.2µF 250V polypropylene capacitors, two 4 Ohm 5W resistors, two 6.2 Ohm 5W resistors, and two 0.4 mH ACI 20 AWG air core inductors. Also included are 6 ft. of 16 AWG speaker wire, two 0.205" (16-14) female disconnects, two pieces of 4" x 18" acoustic foam 1-1/2" thick, eight #8 x 3/4" Phillips pan head woofer screws, and fourteen #6 x 3/4" Phillips pan head tweeter screws.
Assembly takes about two hours and requires beginner soldering skills to assemble the crossover. A tutorial explains speaker design theory and construction, making the kit suitable as an introduction to speaker design and soldering.
