The Dayton Audio 4.5 mH, 18 AWG laminated silicon steel I-core inductor is designed for speaker crossover applications, including subwoofer crossovers where large inductance values are needed. It has a 0.46-ohm DC resistance, ±3% tolerance, and 250 watts RMS power handling. The core is laminated silicon steel with a maximum of 3% silicon.
The coil uses fully annealed refined copper wire with baked enamel insulation, wound around a laminated silicon steel core. Dayton Audio states that its inductor wire and foil copper is a minimum of 99.9% pure, with an oxygen component between 0.02% and 0.04%. Slotted mounting holes support installation.
The construction description specifies a 1-1/4" square x 1-3/4" long plastic bobbin encasing a 1/2" x 3" laminated silicon steel core. The specifications also list dimensions of 1.57" H x 1.5" W x 2.4" long for the plastic bobbin around a 0.5" square x 3" laminated silicon steel core. To help prevent crosstalk and noise, position inductors in crossovers at right angles to each other.
