The Dayton Audio SBA302-BT is a sound bar amplifier kit for building a custom powered sound bar. Its separate input/amplifier, control and IR modules provide 3.5 mm stereo line-level, Toslink optical, HDMI ARC and Bluetooth inputs for connection to almost any television or for streaming from a phone, tablet or other wireless device. Bluetooth 5.0 has a range of up to 65 ft. (20 m). The amplifier delivers 2 x 30 watts RMS into a minimum impedance of 4 ohms, with a frequency response of 35 to 20,000 Hz, total harmonic distortion of 96.3 dB and maximum input sensitivity of 2.3V RMS. Outputs are wire leads. Power consumption is 0.5W in standby and 66.5W maximum. An 18V, 3A power supply is included; its input is 100~240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, and its output is 18 VDC, 3A.
The input/amplifier module houses the audio inputs, power connections and amplifier board. Its connections are recessed to support close-to-wall installation. The module is described as 1-7/8” high, 8-1/2” wide and 3" deep; listed dimensions are 1.81” H x 8.5” x 3” D, with a hole size of 1.22" H x 7.875" D. The control module has separate power, input-switching and volume buttons, requires less than 1/2” of mounting depth, and is described as a 2-1/4” x 3-1/2” panel. Its listed dimensions are 2.28" H x 3.5" W x 0.4" D, with a hole size of 1.25" H x 2.36" W. The IR module installs at the front of the sound bar and receives the wireless remote signal. Its status LEDs show the selected input, indicate when a Dolby Digital signal is present and blink for volume adjustments; the included remote can toggle the LEDs on or off. IR module dimensions are 2.28” H x 1.81” W, with a hole size of 1.53” H x 1.22” W.
The included IR remote controls power, input switching and volume, and adds mute, LED on/off and selection of one of 4 EQ presets. The SBA302-BT can also learn commands from an existing IR remote to control the functions on the wired control module. The subwoofer level adjustment is not currently used.
