Dodge City is an exuberant concert piece that evokes the spirit of the old west. From stagecoaches and sagebrush to cowboys, cactus, sheriffs, and showdowns, it captures the feel of frontier days in a lively, theatrical way.
The piece features quick, lighthearted outer sections that frame a lyric middle section, creating contrast and keeping the energy moving from start to finish. It is designed to suggest the atmosphere of a bustling old west city and to engage both performers and audiences.
Scoring includes 5 trumpets (piccolo optional), flugel horn, 4 horns, 3 trombones, euphonium, 2 tubas and percussion.
