This complete score and parts set is for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s two-act opera Don Giovanni, K. 527, written in 1787 following a commission from Prague impresario Pasquale Bondini. Mozart worked with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, with whom he had collaborated on The Marriage of Figaro.
The opera follows Don Giovanni, an arrogant nobleman who abuses and abandons the women he seduces and kills the father of a woman he assaults. At the end, the murdered man returns as a ghost and demands repentance; Don Giovanni refuses and is dragged to Hell. The cast concludes that “Evildoers always come to an evil end.”
The opera premiered at Prague’s Estates Theatre on October 29th, 1787, with Mozart conducting. Its instrumentation is: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.3.0: Timp: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set): Vocal Soli (8 roles SSSTBBBB): Chorus: Banda.
