Drums From Brazil is an instructional book and DVD for learning classic Brazilian rhythms on rebolo, hand repique, tantan, and multiple percussion. The method starts with warm-ups and groove patterns, then explores samba, bossa nova, baião, Afoxé, Xaxado, Marchinha, Xote, and Samba in 7/8 for experienced players.
For each style, the DVD offers sample performances to support practice of hand coordination and technique. The material is suitable for self-study and can also be used by teachers for one-on-one or group instruction.
The author is one of Brazil’s in-demand percussionists and percussion teachers, performing with ensembles ranging from symphony orchestras to samba schools. He also works as a private tutor and is credited with inventing the Ceramofone, a ceramic percussion instrument played with sticks.
