Dzhankoye Choral Octavo is part of the Yiddish Choral Series, edited by Samuel Seifert and Ludwig Böhme. It brings the Yiddish folk song Dzhankoye into a new choral setting for choirs.
The song reflects the pride of Jewish peasants who sing of a Jewish kolkhoz (collective farm) on the Crimean peninsula. Juan M.V. Garcia’s arrangement runs 2 minutes and gives performers scope for creativity.
The melody and choral "background" can be performed in a variety of ways, and the piece can be enriched by clapping and other effects. The series also includes informative introductions, transliterated Yiddish lyrics, and poetic translations into English and German alongside the original Hebrew text.
