Puccini’s Edgar: Act III Prelude Conductor Score & Parts presents the striking orchestral Prelude to Act III from his 1889 opera EDGAR.
Composed by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) after the success of LE VILLI and with encouragement from publisher Giulio Ricordi, the opera was premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1889. This Prelude is one of the score’s most notable moments, offering a poignant orchestral meditation that points toward the dramatic intensity and lyrical writing Puccini would later develop in MANON LESCAUT and LA BOHÈME.
