The Epique E150HE-44 is a 5-1/2" carbon fiber cone woofer designed for compact speaker systems, including small subwoofers and 2-way designs. It has dual voice coils rated at 4+4 Ω, power handling of 200 Watts RMS and 400 Watts MAX, a frequency response of 30 - 4000 Hz, and sensitivity of 83.3 dB 2.83V/1m. The voice coil diameter is 1.5", and maximum linear excursion is 14.7mm.
Its patented MMAG (Multiple Magnet Air Gap) motor uses 2 top plates spaced between 6 smaller gap-balancing magnets. Combined with an underhung voice coil, the motor maintains zero loss of motor force (Bl) at 10 mm of excursion, with overall excursion capability of over 14 mm (at 70% Bl). A full-length copper sleeve around the pole provides induction control. The FEA-optimized motor also has extensive venting, including open spaces between the bucking magnets, a vented voice coil former, 3 large peripheral gap vents, and airflow under the spider.
The woven carbon fiber cone has optimized cone and dustcap profiles, a reinforced outer edge, and response extending to 4,000 Hz. Its custom-tooled high-excursion rubber surround has a filleted inside edge, and a large-diameter progressive spider supports cone movement. Tinsel leads are woven into the spider on opposing sides. A rugged cast aluminum frame supports the motor and provides a mounting surface.
