Floot Loops by Jon Jeffrey Grier is a book for flute and piano. Composed in 1979 as a gift to the composer's wife, Marion, its movements connect to everyday life and the challenges of making your way early in an adventure.
The first movement uses a 13-bar structure, hinting at discombobulation against the usual 12-bar blues pattern. “Zeed” refers to the z's that represent sleep in a comic strip bubble, while “Letters Home” reflects a time when the composer and his wife lived apart and kept in touch by letter.
“Cat's Meow” refers to the family's three cats, and “Temporary Help” draws on the composer's brief job at a temporary help agency and the stories he brought home.
