Four Old Flemish Christmas Carols Op. 115 is a choral octavo for mixed choir and instruments. The carols can be sung in English or the original Flemish.
Each carol begins with a unison tune statement, or it can also be done as a solo. The following verses move through SSA or TB, building to a final SATB verse, sometimes with organ accompaniment.
Short 4 to 8 bar instrumental interludes (intermezzi) break up the verses. These interludes vary in color, with instrumentation ranging from solo recorder to oboe/bassoon duet to trumpet/trombone quintet.
