The Gon Bops Mariano Series brings a modern version of founder Mariano Bobadilla’s legendary drums, with vintage character preserved through traditional counter hoops, authentic Latin American cowhide heads, and Durian fruit tree wood construction.
Choose from four 30"-tall sizes: Quinto, 10.75" x 30" (variant: Quinto 10.75"); Conga, 11.5" x 30" (variant: Conga 11.50"); Tumba, 12.25" x 30" (variant: Tumba 12.25"); or Super Tumba, 13.25" x 30" (variant: Super Tumba 13.25").
Durian wood was selected for its light weight and strength, and for performance properties closest to the Philippine Mahogany originally used by Mariano. The wood is harvested from old, non-producing trees that are immediately replanted, making it a sustainable resource.
Traditional Afro-Cuban shell shaping supports volume and resonance. Tight Profile Hardware reduces pressure on wood and hardware and the effort needed to tune; an extended Gon Bops Backing Plate strengthens naturally stressed areas; Smart-Design Side Plates eliminate cup washers for extended tuning range and longer hardware life; and carefully finished bearing edges help eliminate dead spots for tuning and a warm, full sound.
