
The Gypsy Baron (Der Zigeunerbaron) Conductor Score presents Johann Strauss II’s operetta in three acts, first performed at the Theater an der Wien on October 24, 1885. The libretto by Ignaz Schnitzer is based on Saffi by Mór Jókai.
Set in 18th century Hungary, the story follows a gypsy girl who is discovered to be the daughter of a Turkish Pasha and the owner of a hidden fortune. The Act I song Oh, Habet Ach features Saffi’s gypsy song and her warning about the unpredictable nature of her people.
