The Jantzen Audio 2.7uF 100V Alumen Z-Cap is a non-polarized pure aluminum foil capacitor designed specifically for the tweeter and midrange sections of passive crossovers. Its ultra-thin dielectric is designed to reduce capacitor memory and support fast response. Compared with Superior and Silver Z-Caps (Super MKP / double metallized polypropylene foil capacitors), it offers less brightness and a slightly more natural top-end balance. Dimensions: Ø 17mm - L: 44mm.
It uses a polypropylene-film dielectric, a four-layer round tubular construction with axial leads, and aluminum foil spliced to polypropylene insulation film. The dielectric thickness is PB=4µm. Electrodes are pure copper foil; contacts are non-inductive zinc thermally sprayed extended film; and the coating is gray plastic tape wrapped in black resin, sealed in an anodized aluminum tube. Leads are tin-plated oxygen-free pure copper. The rated voltage is 100 VDC / 65 VAC, with a test voltage of 150% of rated voltage. The 100VDC capacitance range is 1.0 μF to 10μF; capacitance tolerance is ±3% on nominal value.
Specifications: non-polar dielectric constant; extremely low dissipation factor; dielectric absorption factor ＜0.5% @20℃; extremely low ESR and SEL; self-inductance 0 nH; insulation resistance ＞100.000 MΩ@20℃; temperature coefficient -200℃x10-6/℃; operating temperature range -55℃to +85℃. Metal layer thickness is PB=0.3µm, and metal layer conductivity is PB =1.2 Ω/cm2. The supplier describes the capacitor as having extremely low inductance and dielectric absorption, with high-quality pure aluminum foil wound using specialized machinery and precision winding techniques.
The capacitor can also be used as a coupling capacitor for transistor amplifiers. Its maximum 100 volts DC rating calls for care in tube/valve and power amplifier applications; the supplier recommends Superior or Silver Z-Caps (double-foil Super MKP capacitors) for upgrading amplifier coupling capacitors.
