The MK Kit Components-Only kit provides the matched parts to build a pair of 2-way vented bookshelf or desktop speakers, while leaving the enclosure to you. Each speaker is rated at 4 ohms, with a frequency response of 55 to 20,000 Hz, sensitivity of 82 dB 1W/1M, a 3,300 Hz crossover point, and 5-way binding posts. Frequency-response information covers 0°–90°; an impedance reference is also specified.
The low and mid frequencies use a Dayton Audio TCP115-4 4" woofer with a treated paper cone and rubber surround. High frequencies come from a Dayton Audio TD20F-4 3/4" silk dome tweeter with a compact neodymium magnet motor. The driver-specific, preassembled crossover uses high quality mylar capacitors and an air core inductor.
The kit includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, 2 assembled crossovers with terminal cups, 2 port tubes, and 1 25-pack of #6 x 3/4" black screws. It includes the components needed for a complete pair except for the enclosures. A cut sheet and detailed panel dimensions are provided for a 1/2" wood cabinet with simple butt joints; the design measures 9.5" x 5.75" x 6.125" (H x W x D).
Downloadable 3D-printed enclosure files are also provided. That design measures 9.25" x 5.25" x 6.5" (H x W x D), is designed for printers with a build volume of 240 x 240 x 170 mm or larger, and includes internal reinforcement ribs, a flared port, and a tool to help remove supports from hard-to-reach areas. For a version with cabinets, the MK Kit with knock-down enclosures includes precision-cut MDF cabinets.
