This full-score edition of Gabriel Fauré’s Sicilienne, Op. 78 was transcribed by Yoav Talmi. Fauré (1845–1924) originally composed the short work in 1893 as an orchestral piece for an abandoned theatrical production.
In 1898, Fauré arranged the unperformed music for cello and piano and as part of the incidental music for Maurice Maeterlinck’s play Pelléas et Mélisande, orchestrated for theater orchestra. The incidental music premiered on June 21, 1898, at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London, with Fauré conducting. The final iteration was the work’s inclusion in a full orchestra suite of the incidental music arranged by Fauré, published in 1909.
