Scored for flute, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, and contrabass (alternate parts for contrabassoon or contra bass clarinet) this is an extremely sensitive and beautiful edition of Gounod's work originally scored for double woodwind quintet. Intended for one player per part, it is more than musical confection; it is a little masterpiece. A terrific recording is available through Ludwig Music on Kosei CD KOCD 31992712.
