“Proudly as the Eagle” is a vocal excerpt from one of German composer Louis Spohr’s operas, presented as a conductor score and parts. The piece is well suited to instrumental ensembles.
Spohr lived at the same time as Beethoven and was an outstanding violinist, remembered mostly for his compositions for the violin. The text speaks of letting voices “swell up to the sky like an eagle.”
