Romanian Folk Dances is an arrangement by Carmen Gassi for five clarinets and bass clarinet. The ensemble has five separate B-flat clarinet parts and a bass clarinet part.
Bartók traveled through small villages in Hungary and Romania, recording and transcribing folk music that later appeared in many of his compositions. With almost no doubling between parts, the arrangement lets each section take a turn sharing the melodic ideas.
