The Roosebeck Emma is a Deluxe 4-string mountain dulcimer with an hourglass shape, a vaulted fretboard, a completely spruce soundboard, and 4 classic F-hole openings. The vaulted fretboard and lightweight spruce soundboard allow more sound vibration. The body, neck, and fretboard are solid sheesham.
It has 2 melody strings, 1 middle string, and 1 bass drone string. The carved scroll peg head has 4 gold-colored mechanical geared straight tuners with a 4:1 ratio. The crown-shaped, gold-color tailpiece has an end pin; the bridge is bone. The description identifies the nut as bone, while the specifications list a 1.25-inch-wide sheesham nut. Neck width is 1.25 inches at both the nut and body joint. Scale length is 25.5 inches, and the instrument has 18 metal frets, including the 6 1/2 and 13 1/2 frets.
The recommended tuning is the traditional DAD method, though many tunings work. Extra nut notches allow different string patterns: remove the inside doubled melody string for a traditional 3-string setup, or move the inside melody string and middle string over one notch to space all 4 strings equally. Doubling the melody string creates greater volume for the melody line.
A pick, noter, and owner's guide are included.
