The Roosebeck Prima Balalaika is a three-string instrument with a classical triangular body. It measures approximately 27 inches in length and has a 430 mm scale length. The strings are tuned above middle C to A, E, E (1st-3rd); the 1st string is thinnest and lays over more frets than the 2nd and 3rd.
Its slightly bowed back is made with alternating staves of two tones of walnut and lacewood, contrasting with the light-colored wood soundboard. The walnut on the soundboard is decorative and helps protect it from strumming. A nylon gig bag and pick are included.
To play, note the strings with the left hand and strum with the right index finger high on the soundboard near the neck. Use a piano or electronic tuner as a tuning reference. Tuning-peg tension can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the screw on top of each peg.
