The Roosebeck Alto Rebec is a 3-string bowed instrument with European ancestry. It can be played resting on the shoulder or chest, or tucked in the armpit. Its optimal tuning is G below middle c, d above middle c, and a above middle c.
The instrument is 23 inches long with a scale length of 12.5 inches. It measures 23 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches deep, including the bridge. It has a sheesham fingerboard and comes with a 27 1/2-inch bow and a padded gig bag. VR200 D'Addario Rosin for the bow is sold separately.
Rebecs are de-tuned and shipped with the bridge removed to reduce the chance of damage. Before playing, set the bridge in place and tune the instrument, and prepare the bow. The bridge is free-floating and held in place by string tension. Place the strings in the bridge notches and stand it on the soundboard between the two sound holes. Measure 13 inches from the bottom of the nut to the front of the bridge under each string, keeping the bridge perpendicular to the strings. Be careful that it does not move while tuning.
