Solar Storm is a colorful, bold, shifty, rhythmic conductor score with a duration of 8:20. A solar storm (or solar flare) is a large explosion in the Sun's atmosphere that releases massive amounts of energy.
The piece is divided into four sections: Sunspots, Ode to Helios, The Carrington Event, and Aurora Borealis. Each section has its own character and strong musical material.
In the chant-like Ode to Helios, the band sings a chant that creates a haunting mood before the music returns to more energetic and heroic sections.
