Souvenir de Florence, Op. 70 is Tchaikovsky’s romantic masterwork, originally composed in 1890 as a string sextet and dedicated to the Saint Petersburg Chamber Society. Lucas Drew’s string orchestra transcription adds a Double Bass part to the original six voices. Tchaikovsky wrote that he was, in essence, composing for the orchestra and only then arranging it for six strings.
The first movement, Allegro con spirito, develops an exciting, memorable Florentine theme. Adagio cantabile e con moto, the second movement, showcases Tchaikovsky’s graceful melodic writing. The third movement is a light balletic scherzo, followed by a passionate final movement incorporating traditional Slavic folk dances.
The set string count is 8-8-3.3-3.3-5. This is an 11x14 oversized score. The product is printed on demand and may take several weeks to fulfill.
