Arnold Schoenberg's String Quartet No. 3, Op. 30 is presented here as a Conductor Score & Parts edition.
Composed in 1927, nearly 20 years after his String Quartet No. 2, this work was written ostensibly for a commission by Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, though it was largely already finished. It is the first of Schoenberg's string quartets to use the 12-tone system he had developed, while returning to the traditional four-movement structure.
The premiere performance was given on September 19, 1927, by the Kolisch Quartet. This is a reprint edition with a running time of (25:00).
