Sunset Over Blue Water is a fresh scoring of the famous hymn tune “It Is Well with My Soul.” Its positive approach draws on the hymn’s lyrics about remaining positive through personal loss and sadness.
Inspired by a picture of a beautiful sunset over the ocean taken aboard a cruise ship, this work features solo opportunities in flute, clarinet, horn, alto saxophone, and trumpet. It builds to a strong forte verse before fading to a quiet, peaceful resolution.
