This bold string adaptation of the first movement of Symphony No. 1 includes a conductor score and parts. The original string parts are retained, with essential material from the wind parts added.
The arrangement is designed to be eminently playable: second violin and viola remain in first position throughout. The first violin part includes some fifth-position notes, usually doubled at the octave; cellos go to fourth position and basses to sixth. It is suited to contest or festival performance.
