Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 in E Minor 'Trauersinfonie' (Hob. I:44) is a four-movement Classical-era symphony completed in 1772.
Known as the “Mourning” symphony, this work is associated with Haydn’s Sturm und Drang style. It is also notable for its unusual original movement order, with the minuet and trio placed as the second movement.
This Breitkopf & Härtel reprint edition presents the symphony in the traditional Classical-era format, with the minuet as the third movement. Instrumentation: 0.2.0.0: 2.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set) (Cl included as Ob2 alt; opt. Bsn to use Vc-Bs part).
