The Castle Album, Part 2 is a reprint edition for solo piano from Rossini’s Péchés de vieillesse (“Sins of Old Age”), Vol. 8, Album de Château (“The Castle Album”). Book 2 includes three pieces: Valse Anti-Dansante, F; Prélude Semipastorale, A; and Prélude Soi-Disant Dramatique, F#.
The full collection comprises 150 vocal, chamber, and solo-piano pieces grouped into fourteen albums. The ordering of works within each album does not reflect their composition dates or sequence. Rossini (1792–1868) wrote the collection as salon music for performance in the privacy of his own drawing room; his widow sold the collection after his death in 1868.
Vol. 8 was written for solo piano and contains twelve pieces. Six are represented in two publisher books and constitute the pieces included in QR xvii. The other six are from QR ii and QR x and are not available from the publisher.
