The Golden Age is a multi-movement work in the carefree style of music written in North America at the turn of the twentieth century. This score and parts present a typical park concert of the era in a single suite.
Inspired by bandshell concerts throughout Canada and the United States, the work brings together popular forms of the time: theme and variations, orchestral transcriptions, waltzes, overtures, rags, and marches. It was conceived in the “old style,” with instrumentation common around the turn of the twentieth century; cornets would be more suitable than trumpets.
