This full score presents Antonín Dvořák’s transcription of two waltzes from Op. 54. Dvořák wrote eight Waltzes, Op. 54, for piano in 1879; at his publisher’s suggestion, he arranged Nos. 1 and 4 for strings the following year.
The transcription can be performed by a string quartet, string quintet, or string orchestra. The set includes a string count of 8-8-5-5-5.
Either waltz can make a superb encore selection, or the pair can anchor a shorter program. Dvořák’s string transcription became more recognizable than the original piano version.
