Windscape is a conductor score for a work in four sections. It opens with “The Winds from the North,” where a driving bass line and punctuated shots represent the bitter winds that blow.
“The Winds of Change” follows with a shifty but steady pulse. The trumpet first carries the melody, then flutes and saxophones add a countermelody. In “The Winds of Mystery,” crystal glasses and a lone alto saxophone provide the featured sonorities.
“The Winds of Change” returns with several sidebar introductions of new rhythmic and melodic material. The piece ends driving and enthusiastic.
